Help Needed w/Longies

I pretty good w/EZ, but I'm stumped on the hip increases on the longies. If any of you have time to explain, I'd be so grateful.

First, she says center-back & center-front, but center-back is in the middle of the short row? So does she really mean this, or do the hip increases actually go on either side of the short rows?

Second, she's asking for 30 rows of increases--is that right? It seems like a lot.

Thanks in advance--I'm cloth diapering & have fallen in love with wool--

Baby Surprise Set

Hi all - it's been awhile since I posted something to this blog but I just finished the cutest little BSJ set and had to share.

It's a super cute BSJ by EZ in the most scrumptious yarn Hello Yarn Fat Sock with matching Saartje's booties too. I was able to squeeze both out of two skeins. It is so, so cute, that's all I could say to myself over and over again as I took photo after photo.

So, so cute.

I had a annoyingly hard time finding the perfect buttons for this set. I really wanted to find a set that had smaller ones for the booties and larger ones for the jacket but coordinated overall which is darn near impossible (who knew?) I finally found some that worked and while I think they're cute I'm not IN-LOVE with them, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for another set.

BSJ Question . . .

If I want to make the sleeves longer by doing an invisible cast on, how exactly does that work? I.e., do I use the invisible cast on for only the stitches that will become sleeves, or do I do the entire cast on invisibly? If I do the entire cast on invisibly, how do I deal with the live stitches that are not taken up by the sleeves come finishing time? If I do only the stitches that will be sleeves, how many do I need to cast on invisibly (assuming I add 9 stitches to each end and skip the increase row above the cuff)--45 (36+9) or 44 ( 35+9) or something else? My head is spinning just thinking this through, so I hope I'm being coherent. LOL. Can anyone help?

For February

I finally got on the bandwagon with a February Baby Sweater (and matching hat), which I donated to a Silent Auction for my sons' preschool. Details on my blog.

saddle shoulder aran cardi

here is my finished saddle shoulder aran that has been in the making for 3 months. i do believe i have made all the mistakes possible and ripped and ripped. but i couldn't agree with ripping when i realised i hadn't mirrored the sheepfold.
and now it looks maybe a little bit short but from my knowledge of handknits the will grow a little with time. and maybe too small is better than too big in the long run.

i made it out of 7 skeins of beaverslide worsted in the lovely and unphotographable colour lichen. i love the yarn and it is said to be very warm in the winter. i used needles 3½ and 4½ mm and decreased 10 percent up the buttonbands and on the lower band. the neck came out the size of an elephant neck so i decreased about 25 percent round the neck which turned out to work very well. i was guided in steeking by eunny jang but i think it is better to use a yarn that is a bit thinner for crocheting the steek as mine ended up looking a bit ruffled. it doesn't show but it is something to keep in mind as it cannot really be fixed once you have made the cut.

i knit this through times of crises (very appropriate for a schoolhouse press design) and even with confidence. and it was like a catharsis to get it off the needles after two months. it symbolizes difficulty. i hope it will not affect the owner's fondness as the crisis is long gone as far as i am concerned.

and now that i have done this with all the mistakes and confusion i have started another for me, me, me. i haven't knitted a sweater for me in the last twenty years but this one i really want to have.

Ganomy for Me!

This was really fun to knit - unfortunately, I'm not talented enough to do a self-portrait of me wearing it!Pattern: Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac; Ganomy Hat

Needles: 10 1/2 circular, using magic loop method
Notes: I loved knitting this hat, although I'm still torn on how it looks on me. I just love the way the increases/decreases add to the texture and design of the hat. Picture is of the back of the hat

Valentine's Day Mittens

I finished the women's mittens from Opinionated Knitter and I love 'em. I thought they might be a little boring, but they turned out beautifully. The chevron pattern was very easy and added a little extra weight and texture



Yarn: Cascade 220 Quatro in Fiji
needles: size 6 dpns

A modified Feb Baby Sweater

I just love this pattern-- there's so much potential for modification and it goes so quickly. And it gives me an excuse to buy more Dream in color Smooshy yarn!



This is my second FBS. This time, I had to work the sweater up super fast for a baby shower. I worked up the body in stockinette and used the gull pattern as a motif just below the yoke, above the bottom and above the cuffs. I also shortened the sleeves by an inch to keep them from dragging. I made a hat to match, but don't have a picture of it, unfortunately.

Betsy Belle's Bavarian Mittens

Hi Zimmermaniacs,
Maybe went a little far in the Zimmermaniacness, at Christmas we went to Munich and then Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian part of Germany, reading Knitting Around as a travel guide! We stopped at Chiemsee where the Zimmermann family had a summer home and saw lots of garter stitch cardigans which are the Bavarian traditional dress. Miss Belle is modelling her mittens done en-route from some left-over shetland wool from Jamieson & Smith. Louis is modelling his Tomten knit in some donated Sirdar Donegal Tweed, not usually my thing only 45% wool but I was just so pleased to be given it and loved the colour so I broke my own rules. The I-cord cast-off was left over Jeager Extra Fine Merino, and this was my first zip. In the middle is me, Sarah, modelling my super-duper Adult Surprise knit from my Rowanspun Aran on a 5mm needle, I begged fellow knitters for there left overs too! Pink and brown

My son, four weeks old, modelling yet another february sweater (Knitter´s Almanac), knit in stockinette ("Merino big" from Lana grossa) with raglan sleeves. And hey, I like boys in pink. Slightly pink maltese fisherman´s hat from "Knitting Without Tears", knit in the same wool.
I finally managed knitting coloured patterns. These are the Norwegian mittens from "Knitters Almanac". Well, there are some differences, not to say mistakes, concerning the palm pattern, but I thought that this side doesn´t show too often. It took me a while to figure out knitting with two colours, and I found EZ's instructions from "Knitting without tears" extremely helpful. Same wool as above.

Seamless Hybrid

I thought it was time again for a little bit Zimmermann-Knitting. A sweater for me, made of Noro Kureyon, warm and cosy for walks with the dog in winter. That was the plan. Well, sweater finished, it fits perfect - my husband. He loves it and what could a knitter want more?
