Totem Questions
I really want to make a Totem for my niece. EZ gives 4 sizes: Baby, Child (27"), Child (32"), & Adult). Any help on what the commercial sizes would be for the 2 Child sizes? I'm pretty sure that the Little One will not sit still long enough for a measuring (also, if I don't get to it, my sister isn't asking, "where is it?"). I would love for anyone who has made it could comment on the fit.

Could you measure one of your niece's sweaters? Just lay it flat and measure it across, then multiply by 2 for the chest measurement.

Tomten will work for a preemie or a lumberjack. Just do a gauge swatch. (I've knit maybe 50 of them in the last 25 years... Never for a lumberjack, though.)
To paraphrase EZ in KWOTears, "If you're knitting for a baby, just cast on and knit away. It will fit some time or another."
You could measure one of your niece's sweaters, multiply by 2 for the chest measurement THEN add maybe 2 more inches for grow room. And make the sleeves extra long so they go from cuff/mittens to right to the wristbone sleeves.

I made a Tomten in various worsted weight leftovers for a charity project. It ended up being a size 18/24 months.
When dividing for back and sleeves,I modified the modular formula slightly, moving a couple of sts away from each sleeve and onto the sides of the back. For a 2 year old I would do the same, taking another st or 2 from the sleeves, which are very roomy. I would also add to the sleeve length.
