Norwegian Mittens

I finished my Norwegian mittens!
Pattern: Norwegian Mittens from Knitting Around by Elizabeth Zimmerman
Yarn: Knitpicks Telemark in Northern and Bayberry (I used 2 balls of Northern and 1 of Bayberry, but I just *barely* made it with the Bayberry)
Needles: US #3 Addi Turbos, 32"I am thrilled with these mittens--I love how they look, and they were fun to knit. Who knew I liked colorwork? The only problem I had was that my first mitten was a WAY looser gauge than the second, so now I kind of want to knit the first one over. We'll see if that ever happens, though. My mom wants some of these now, so I've got to get to work on another pair!

  • They look great, and as others have noted, the color combination is striking. I'll be putting these on my ever-growing "must-knit" list.

  • How beautiful your mittens are!

If I where you I would knit another pair in the same colour way. One looser to match your first mitten and one tighther to match the second one. Voila, you would have one pair for you and another for your mum...

  • Gorgeous mittens! I am waiting for my Telemark yarn to arrive and plan on making EZ's Norwegian mittens (I need to join this group!). My only concern is adjusting the length-the gauge & pattern chart puts them at almost 12". I have very small hands & 8-9 inches would be more my size. Did yours come out almost 12"--if not how did you adjust the length? Thanks and congrats!

  • there should be a link now with my e-mail!

By Anonymous Kaarin, at 8:17 AM

  • Kaarin-I couldn't find your email, so hopefully you'll see this. My mittens are 10" total, but the cuff is really meant to be over your wrist. that actual hand portion is only about 7" when it's on my hand.
    Hope that helps!
