This was my first EZ knit, finished just before the KAL started. I'm wondering why the conch shell texture is not as pronouced as in many other hats I've seen? I followed her instructions to the letter (I think at least!) in KWT so I am guessing it's the yarn. I used a handspun wool I purchased a while ago. It has a similar gauge to the sheepsdown she recc's so I thought it would knit up similarly. Any thoughts?
I find that with some handspuns and softer natural fiber (alpaca comes to mind) there is less patterning because the yarn has less shape, so your stitch's meld into themselves. I did a lace shawl out of an inca alpaca that had about 1/2 the patterning I was hoping for, made it again out of blue sky and it turned out great. Same weight, the blue sky just had a stronger twist. That said - I love the hat! colors are great! and even if the pattern is not so pronounced, I bet it looks great on!

I'd also guess the yarn was too soft. After a couple washings, it might feel just right as the fibers mess together. Sure is pretty.
