Baby Leggings Feet and Knees questions

I'm working on the February Baby Leggings, and I'm wondering if the feet will be safe for a walking toddler. Have any of you put on non-slip soles? (I've tried them in the long-distant past and didn't like them, but maybe they've improved.) Maybe it'd be best just to stop with ribbed ankles.

Also, does a crawling baby wear out the knees? Should they be reinforced somehow?

I'm making this for our granddaughter born a month ago. I figure she won't be walking this winter, but she will be crawling. And maybe these won't even fit until a year from now.

It's fun knitting them and seeing them take shape. I sure appreciate the comments and pictures from those who have already made them.

EZ Shorties

Pattern: Baby Leggings from Knitter's Almanac
Yarn: Patons Classic Merino in camel
Needles: US size 5 circs
Gauge: Between 5 and 5 1/5 stitches per inch
Unstretched measurements: 16" waist, 21" hip (widest part, at last increase), 20" rise. It fits my 14-month-old son perfectly (but with not a whole lot of room to grow, so it would probably fit a younger baby as well).
Mods: Increased the number of stitches set aside for the crotch to 14 front and back; 5 stitches just doesn't seem like enough for an active toddler. Also did just 7 rows of ribbing after dividing for the legs to make shorties instead of longies.

The rise is indeed long, as I've read elsewhere, but I decided to just knit the pattern as written (with the exception of the mods mentioned above) the first time just to see how it turns out. It's really not that long after blocking, and since I used merino, I know it'll shorten some with the felting from regular wear anyway, so I'll probably be thankful for the extra length down the road.

This was a fun and easy pattern, and it turned out really cute. So far I give it a thumbs up, but my little man hasn't worn it yet. I'm interested to see how it fits and behaves on a babe in action.

I'm finished! This pattern is from E. Zimmermann's "Knitter's Almamac." I used Clover US 8 (5 mm) needles : one 16" circular and 5 dpn. Yarn is knit Picks Swish Superwash (100% wool). I started on April 3, finished yesterday. (I was knitting it on and off, not every day)

I'm very pleased with the results, especially with seams.

You know that seams shows if you are advanced knitter or just playing with yarn.

But the really pleasing thing was my husband's reaction. First he said "good", which in his jargon means "exellent." Then he thought a little bit and asked "Did you buy it?" "I knitted it" (Like he has never seen me knitting it--that's how he's paying attention to what I'm doing.)

The only confusing thing was what will be the size of baby leggings. EZ writes that "you shouldn't worry about it bacause babies comes in all sizes." Well, what if I want a particular size? It wasn't my case, though because there is no baby yet. I intended to use it for this fall and winter--we'll see how it will fit! When the baby will outgrow it, I'll be able to make leggings in larger sizes.

Help with baby leggings pattern

I Knitter's Almanac Baby leggings have this:
cast on 84 sts
join and work in k2, p2 ribbing for 3 rounds
next round: k2. YO, p2
Rib for 10 more rounds

I stuck wo rinning after first 4 rounds. What to do with this YO'vers? Knit them or purl them? This would disrupt the ribbing
What to do?
