Which buttons for Rorschach?

Rorschach is blocking, and I knitted the belt last night. Now the time is ticking away: I want to bring this sweater with me on my trip to New York, and I leave tomorrow night. I need to make button tabs (EZ has a nifty design especially for Rorschach in Knitting Workshop) and decide which buttons to sew on.

Here are the contenders:

Button #1 is the smaller one. It has a square design inside the circle that neatly echoes Rorschach's mitres. It's a glossy black.

Button #2 is larger and also has a geometric design, but it doesn't remind me of any of the elements of the sweater. It's more of a matte black.

Here they are laid out on the sweater. Button #1:

And Button #2:

Please let me know what you think!

  • Definitely the smaller ones I think as the larger may overlap the black border. Another suggestion is buttons in white?!

  • i have a penchant for oversize buttons. and the sweater is lovely. you will wear it to pieces.

  • I like the smaller ones, they are more in proportion with the black bands.

  • I like the smaller ones, I think they fit the button band better. Lovely Sweater, I'm thinking about that one next.

  • I think the larger buttons are more trendy (which is fun now,) but the smaller ones more classic, more long term...and I guess that depends if you are willing to switch them later on~
If I were headed to New York~
I would probably put the trendy ones on for now and hang on to the smaller ones (changing them perhaps next year) as they are more balanced, therefore making them classic~
Whenever I want to update a dress or blouse I invest in some seriously great buttons!
Usually it does the trick for me!
Who's to say you wont find some MORE buttons in New York??
But then,,I just spent 3 hours in a button specialty shop for buttons for a BSJ!

  • I like the big ones. They fit well with the bold and graphic look of the sweater. But the small one do fit the band.
    Get crazy, go big!

  • I like the smaller ones. Are we running about even here? ;)

  • Smaller is my vote!

  • Smaller. Larger ones distract a bit.

    Nice work. :)

  • I like the look of the bigger buttons, but they are a tad big for the band....big help, huh?

  • Oh I think number 1 looks the best!

  • definitely the smaller ones.

  • I'm going out of the box here and causing you something else to think about--I also like the idea of white buttons, matt white, but with a small band of black in them. Hope I don't step on your toes, but I think that black takes away from your black band, it makes you look at the buttons, which stand out, instead of the black design element in your sweater. Just my small and humble opinion.

  • I agree with Lisa, here. The small buttons are nice, but would be even better in an off-white. You don't want anything to compete with that black band. Can't wait to see the final photos!

  • smaller. looks fab either way, but, like most of the other commenters, I think the smaller ones are more balanced and more classic. and what's more classic than EZ?

By Blogger Eva, at 8:49 AM

  • I'd vote for the smaller, because they reflect the width of the black band better, nestle on the white band easily so you can see the entire shape of the button. More graphically interesting.

    Great sweater!
